Nikki: Thanks for your message. The party is tonight in Oceanside, NY for a group of 13 year olds. I purchased your book on Monday and have put together a Treasure Hunt using baseball terms although I don’t consider the party to have a theme. I am using some of the suggestions for challenges in your book as well as having made up a few of my own. Your book was very clear and the instructions were all easy to understand. I am so glad I found your website!! I was going to attempt to put a Treasure Hunt together on my own and I was procrastinating over it as you may have figured out from the fact that I just ordered the book Monday!!!

We had our treasure hunt Sat night. It was great. The students enjoyed it and so did the adults that were working the different stations. I was so relieved to have something already complete and ready to use. It was user friendly. We changed the font and copied it onto brown aged paper and it looked so real. We had middle school age and college age. They all enjoyed it. We had the stations set up among a pirate town and they had to go through the town to complete. We used it to eliminate the teams to two and the two completed a treasure hunt that was extra. Thank you for such a good product.

Our treasure hunt was based on the pirates of the Caribbean II dead mans chest characters. It was a swarm of fun for all and a huge hit, participants and watchers alike enjoyed the games and puzzles and the treasure at the end!! Thank you for the kit it was a big hit. A lot of work transforming it to my theme on the computer. But so worth it. We had three teams of 3-4 boys ages 11-14. Thanks again

Thanks Nikki,

My daughter has now had her 13th birthday party. It was successful event! We have just over 1000m block or 1/4 acre block and the weather stayed fine for the evening. My daughter and her 15 guests started the treasure hunt half hour after the guests arrived and teams were picked by taking a slip of paper which had the team colours were written down.

The teams comprised of random members, some teams of three, some teams of two. We only had two officials so we modified the game slightly. 45 mins after the game started it was already dark so all challenges were held in the front yard under flood lights. All the girls participated, even the ones who don’t normally participate in parties and games. I split the game in two parts. First part, all the clues were answered and the code collected and the winners were declared.

We then stopped for dinner, a tag tail game, bubbles and glow in the dark necklaces kept them busy for another hour or so. Then the second part of the treasure hunt continued. The winning team received their treasure map (tea stained, burnt around the edges, skull and cross bones etc) which led them to a starting point, which then led them to the back garden shed and with torches they found the next map and the key which then led them to the spade and onto the treasure buried in the back yard.

The treasure tin contained lollies, mini chocolate bars and caramels that were all wrapped in gold wrappers. This was the only sweets that the girls had. The theme was ‘all for one and one for all’ so the contents of the treasure chest was shared out. Everyone had a great time and one girl stated that she was going to have a treasure hunt for her birthday! One girl, notorious for not participating and going home early asked her Mum for a half hour extension. Four of my daughter’s friends slept over and we showed ‘Pirates of the Caribbean.’

I found and downloaded your treasure hunt game on the Thursday, shopped Friday afternoon and the party was held Saturday afternoon, plus my daughter attends her Art school Saturday Morning and I attend a guitar lesson Saturday afternoon so I only arrived home 15 mins before the first guests arrived. My daughter and her friend swept and decorated the garage, which we tend to keep tidy so we can use it as our party room. I basically pulled this together in three days with minimal help from my overworked husband. After the party my DH and I tidied up and were sitting down for our well deserved decaf coffee by 10.20pm.Thanks again Nikki we all had an excellent time. Cate from downunder

Nikki,

Your product sounds terrific, but I’m at a loss as to which version to purchase. Our volunteer fire department has an annual Homecoming (fund-raiser) and I’m planning a scavenger hunt. The age range could be 10 to 18. Would the ‘kids’ option be too young if I split the group or would I be able to modify per your examples?

Sincerely,

Hi Bethany

If you are referring to our Treasure Hunt Party Game, I suggest the adult / all ages version would work fine for a group of 10 -18 year olds. We do also have a scavenger hunt product.

There are some differences between our major ebook products: Treasure Hunt and Scavenger Hunt. The Treasure Hunt Party Game is based around six locations, at each location, the teams are required to complete a challenge or puzzle in order to win pieces of a clue. The clue pieces when put together will lead them to the treasure map and then onto the treasure. The Scavenger Hunt game is about collecting items or completing tasks on a list. Teams compete to complete the list, or to earn points in a given timeframe. The game style is your choice.

Best wishes
Nikki

Dear Nikki:

Your ebook is a treasure in its own. We are going to have the scavenger hunt-birthday party on June 15, it’s for a 16-year old girl whom I had to convince that the clues were not going to be ‘dumb’ - I read a couple from various age groups and she smiled!!!!! That’s a heck of an accomplishment, so now she trusts her parents that we actually could pull this off. (she of course does not remember all the previous successful parties that we threw for her and her sisters while they were growing up, we don’t get credit for those).

We live in Massachusetts, a little town (18,000 residents) west of Boston called Westborough. It used to be a sleepy little town, we had 12 dairy farms when we moved here in 1980, and now it’s a affluent suburb.

Because the party will be held on the last day of school, there’s a lot of activities going on in town so we just hope that this hunt will be one of the most attended one. I had not thought about a theme, beyond ‘last day of school’…. With a 16-year old, and a girl on top, who quite be quite finicky, we try to accommodate her wishes while being responsible. For instance, she wanted the scavenger hunt at night…. well, that did not work for us, we were not going to be responsible for a group of teenager roaming about town at dark. So we had to compromise and I think we came up with a good plan. Her father’s still on the fence, because we’ll have to have adult drivers lined, but it’s a small inconvenience to pay for the security of the kids and the pleasure that they’ll all derive from the party.

I read through the book and then printed out the pages that I needed - I’ll pull from various age groups because some of the clues are a riot - 4 ice cubes? and bring them back unmelted? I just have to throw that one in.

So I have high expectations that the kids will be very excited and happy with the event. The next challenge that we have not quite yet overcome is to agree on the food to serve. One challenge at a time..

Thank you for your wonderful material.

Hello Nikki,

I did get the treasure hunt download fine. Our party will be in November the 2 or 3 weekend. It is for my daughter who will be turning 16. If you have any good suggestions for this age please let me know? We live in a rural area and have our home on 10 acres. We live in Baroda, Michigan in the United States. We might have between 15 and 20 kids in all. I have read through the book once and need to go back through it again. Thank you for your e-mail

Hi Nikki,

I am planning a party for Washington state, USA. It will be May 13. It’s my son’s 13th birthday; there will be about 15 guests ages 12 and 13. We aren’t planning a theme so far. We had the idea for this kind of party or a scavenger hunt, but we are really busy right now and felt overwhelmed by putting it all together, so finding your party planner was very helpful. We are just starting to put it all together, so I don’t have any firm details.
Tentatively, I am planning a couple of scavenger hunt type clues starting at a local playing field and leading to a local park where the main treasure hunt party game will be set up, similar to the party guide. This is because my son really wanted to go all through town, but the treasure hunt in one location seemed a lot more practical, so I’m trying to compromise a bit.

I’ll email you if I have any questions as things get more definite.

Thanks, you’ve taken some pressure off!

As our complicated lives roll on …we have had to postpone the treasure hunt/ birthday party until next year for my daughter. She will be 13 next year. She is thinking of adding boys to the mix so the hunt will be perfect for this party. I’m sure it will be highly successful with all the time I have to plan! (If I don’t wait until the last minute.) We live in a very small but attractive and vibrant small town, we’re planning on using the down town (about two blocks long) as the environment for the hunt. Our town closes down after 5:30pm, so we should have the place to ourselves. I am an artist and love the latitude of creating this hunt with props, etc. I will stay in touch and if you have any ideas to help stimulate a clever hunt including shop fronts as the theme let me know . Thanks for all your e-mails, I look forward to keeping you posted and asking questions, if I may, as I do a re-creation of the hunt for our town.

We had the scavenger hunt party and the girls loved it! I have never seen 17 18 year olds change clothes from their dresses and high heels into jeans and sweats so quickly! It was amazing how competitive and creative in their searches they were! You provided a lot of great ideas I know we will use again. Thanks.

The scavenger party was a big success! Had 4 teams of 7-8 girls ages 12-13. The ‘bigger or better’ theme was great. Each team kept each item obtained and in the end all the teams voted for the winning team. The winners received $10 each and everyone else could take home any of the collected items they so desired. They worked up their appetites and enjoyed the taco bar. Fun was had by all! Thanks again.

Hi Nikki,
The party went well. There were ten, 11 and 12 year old girls. I stayed with the instructions in your book almost exactly as I downloaded your book the morning of the party. Every challenge and puzzle was perfect for their age and ability and I had every prop around the house.
I am sure I will be able to use your book for years to come.
Thanks,

Hi Nikki,
The Birthday Party was a great success! We had ten 13 year old girls have a pool party at a local hotel. They went racing around the mall on their scavenger hunt. They were very creative and surprised even me when neither team had any of the same objects. One team had an office member go on line to print out a picture of the Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz while the other team grabbed the Dorothy flyer from the lobby. For something yellow one team had a pen and they other went to subway and asked for yellow peppers. They were very respectful of the people in the Mall and made sure they showed them they scavenger hunt booklet. The people in the elevator were all saying Scavenger hunt what a great idea.

People were opening their purses to see what they could give them anything from band aids to hair binders. When each team was done they meet in the Lobby where the joined hands and sang happy birthday as loud as they could. Everyone in the Mall complex and the Hotel were laughing!

The kids had a great time! Thanks,

I struggled for weeks on what to do for my daughter’s 13th birthday party. It’s a tough age. They don’t want to be treated like kids and they don’t want to do anything that might be considered ‘lame’. Thinking back to my college sorority days, I started thinking that a scavenger hunt might be the answer. So, after a thorough Goggle search, I ordered your ‘Treasure Hunt Party Game Planner’. To make a long story short, several kids told me afterwards that it was the BEST birthday party they had ever attended…even before their parents told them to say it??!!

With just a few minor modifications, I implemented your Scavenger Photo Challenge. I thought it would be safer and easier than a bunch of 13 year-olds ‘borrowing’ items. Also, I liked the idea of having a permanent record of the party in the photos.

Clearly, your planner was an excellent resource in preparing for this event.

Hi Nikki, Thanks for the Treasure Hunt. My son’s 8th birthday party was great. All the kids loved the hunt and the last clue was a treasure map that lead to a buried treasure. They all were running around like crazy. My son still talks about it a week later. He wants to do it again next year.

My daughter is having her 16th birthday in November, I am planning to make a treasure hunt for her party.

Hello Nikki,

We are planning a Masquerade Ball for our daughter Abbi’s 16th birthday and thought your treasure hunt game would be a good activity and would blend well with our theme.

We are a conservative Christian family and will be inviting the teenage sons and daughters of other Christian families and we wanted to make sure your game would be appropriate for our gathering. We had previously ordered a party game online (from a different site) that was described as a teen version, however, once we downloaded the game we realized there was too much material in it that violated Biblical principles so we could not use it. Unfortunately, the person we ordered it from would not give us a refund. It was not a treasure hunt. I think your treasure hunt will be much more suitable for our needs and more adaptable for a ‘dress-up’ party.

We want this birthday party to be something Abbi can look back on with glad memories and for it to be something we can all feel good about.

I appreciate your taking time to respond to my email.

Sincerely,

Patricia Smith, Oklahoma USA

My treasure hunt is taking place in California. It is my daughter’s 13th birthday party with a pirate theme. She loves pirates of the Caribbean. The guests are aged 12-13

My mind is reeling with ideas! We have a swimming pool,
so one activity for sure will be to put a note to the birthday girl in a plastic bottle weighted down so it will float straight up and down. They will have to ‘fish’ out the correct bottle using the skimmer net and give it to my daughter to read. Either that or the treasure map will be one of the bottles and they have to fish through bottles until they find the right one. I’ll give you an outline of what we did with it later.

Nikki,

Yes, we have had our treasure hunt. I don’t know what I was looking for when I purchased your book….However it did help. I put the kids (age 7-13) into three teams. We used the stations where the teams had to go and complete a task as a team to earn clues. Each team had to figure out their clues to find their party goody bags. So the kids had a good time and it took them about 1 1/2hrs to do it.

My daughters 12th birthday turned out nice…

I really appreciate the game. We used the game for youth church activity. The group ranging from 12- 18 years old had a fun time together. The puzzle pieces had a riddle on it that led them to the key to the treasure chest. We had a wonderful time.
